NCM-MCI-6.10 Questions Practice Online

An administrator is required to deploy a new write-heavy MS-SQL virtual machine on Cluster 1.

VM requirements:

vCPU: 12

vRAM: 128 GB

Storage: 100 GB OS disk, 750 GB Data disk

Create the VM and any required supporting objects in the existing environment to satisfy the requirements while maximizing performance for the production workload. Use NEWSQL in the name of any new object that is created.

Production environment:

4 nodes

Each node contains two 8-core CPUs

Each node has 1024 GB RAM

Storage: 4 × 7.16 TB SSD disks and 8 × 8 TB HDD disks

Ensure that the VM is configured for the best possible performance in the production environment.

Note: Network configuration is not required at this stage. Do not power on the VM.

Options:

Answer:
See the Explanation below for the detailed answer.

Explanation:
The task can be completed in two main phases. First, create a new SSD-only storage container for the write-intensive SQL workload. Second, deploy the VM with the appropriate CPU, memory, and disk layout to provide maximum performance.

Access Cluster 1 Prism Element

From the Prism Central dashboard, go to Hardware > Clusters.

Locate Cluster 1 in the cluster list and select its name.

This opens the Prism Element interface for Cluster 1.

Log in to the Prism Element interface for Cluster 1.

Create an SSD-Based Storage Container

Because the VM will run a write-intensive SQL workload on a hybrid cluster, the SQL data and log disks should be placed on an SSD-only container to achieve the best performance.

In the Cluster 1 Prism Element interface, click the gear icon to open Settings.

From the left-side menu, select Storage.

Click + Storage Container.

Configure the basic container settings:

Name: NEWSQL_Flash_Container

Open Advanced Settings.

Go to the Storage Tier section.

Select SSD to pin the container data to the SSD tier.

This ensures that the SQL workload uses flash storage instead of the hybrid tier.

Click Save.

Create and Configure the SQL VM

Next, create the virtual machine and apply CPU, memory, and disk settings that align with performance best practices.

From the Prism Element dashboard, open the VM view.

Click + Create VM.

Configure the VM compute settings:

Name: NEWSQL_VM

vCPUs: 12

Number of Sockets: 2

Cores per vCPU: 6

Memory: 128 GB

This configuration creates a 2-socket VM with 6 cores per socket, giving a total of 12 vCPUs. It also aligns the VM with the underlying physical NUMA layout, where each node has two 8-core CPUs.

Add the OS Disk

In the Disks section, click + Add New Disk.

Configure the OS disk as follows:

Storage Container: Default hybrid container

Size: 100 GB

Bus: SCSI

Device Index: 0

Click Add.

This creates the operating system disk on scsi.0.

Add the SQL Data Disk

Click + Add New Disk again.

Configure the data disk as follows:

Storage Container: NEWSQL_Flash_Container

Size: 750 GB

Bus: SCSI

Device Index: 1

Click Add.

This places the SQL data disk on the SSD-only container and assigns it to a separate SCSI controller for better I/O handling.

Add the SQL Log Disk

Click + Add New Disk again.

Configure the log disk as follows:

Storage Container: NEWSQL_Flash_Container

Size: 100 GB

Bus: SCSI

Device Index: 2

Click Add.

This places the log disk on the SSD-only container and assigns it to another separate SCSI controller, which is a recommended design for write-intensive SQL workloads.

Review and Save the VM

Verify that the VM has the following configuration:

VM Name: NEWSQL_VM

vCPU: 12

Memory: 128 GB

OS Disk: 100 GB on the default hybrid container

Data Disk: 750 GB on NEWSQL_Flash_Container

Log Disk: 100 GB on NEWSQL_Flash_Container

Disk Controllers: scsi.0, scsi.1, and scsi.2

Confirm that Power on VM after creation is unchecked.

Click Save.

The VM is now created with SSD-based storage for the write-intensive SQL disks, separate SCSI controllers for improved I/O performance, and a CPU configuration optimized for the production cluster environment.
